Everyone and their mothers have been blogging about Those Darlins recently, but I am in strong support of them, so I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon. They’re an alt-country outfit from Tennessee who play simple southern rock. It’s pretty great to hear a group of southern-accented rocker chicks singing “I’m just driving nails in my coffin everytime I drink a bottle of booze.” It’s also refreshing that they’re from Tennessee and not Brooklyn. I know that’s not fair, but they seem more authentic because of that.
Actually, I’m not sure if I’d like Those Darlins so much if a video hadn’t been my first experience with them. They look like such cool, laid back girls. I’m in love with their bassist; I can’t tell if I like their music or if I just want to be them. What do you think? Are they the next alt-country indie rock buzz band or just a passing blog fad? Either way, you can catch them playing on March 2nd or 3rd at the Music Hall of Williamsburg or the Bowery Ballroom, respectively.
I’ve been on a real classic country kick for the past few days (Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn’s “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” on mental repeat, etc.) so I really like hearing something new and twangy. I was going to compare them to the Carter Family, but looking at their MySpace page I see everyone else has already done that.
Postscript: I love your new site.
