I’m feeling pretty meh ab0ut the shows going down on Tuesday. If you’re really looking for something to do, however, this is probably your best bet. The Submarines, The Morning Benders, and Maricopa all seem to play pretty standard indie-pop fare. Certainly enjoyable, but not altogether memorable. You might know The Submarines from their song, “You, Me, and The Bourgeoisie,” recently featured on many iTunes commericals. It’s a decent song. I was a bit irked by their myspace page, however, because unlike Chairlift, they advertise themselves as the band who was featured on the iPhone commercial. A dangerous path to follow, to be sure.
What really intrigues me about this show, however, is Dawn Landes. Firstly, she is absolutely adorable (that’s her above). Secondly, her tunes are catchy, singer-songwriter-y kind of stuff. Her song, “Bodyguard,” is great. I can’t stop listening to it. Check out the free download below (she also has a cool cover of Peter Bjorn and John’s “Young Folks” up on her myspace)! The show is at Mercury Lounge and starts at 8pm.
