I was not too excited when I glanced at the prospects for this Sunday’s shows. Matisyahu? Nope. Ryan Adams playing in New Jersey? Nope. A really terrible band called My Dear Disco that I saw play at Mercury Lounge a few weeks ago? Nope. That left me with only two show options for this Sunday evening. I knew neither of them, but was very pleasantly surprised when I came across Team Genius’ myspace page. The first song that comes up is “Take Me Home.” It has a sparse, catchy beginning with some nice falsetto male vocals. The rest of the songs are simple, fun indie pop tunes. They remind me a little bit of Boy Least Likely To crossed with Moldy Peaches. Same kind of upbeat melodies and raw, interesting vocals. It’s only $6, so if you’re looking to go to a show on Sunday, I’d choose this one.
UPDATE: Now that I’ve listened to their myspace page a few times, I think I might really like this. Actually pretty darn good. I found the above video from Hooves on the Turf. Really, really cute. In a good way.
