Recommended Friday Show: Blitzen Trapper, Plants and Animals, and Alela Diane at Bowery Ballroom

l_f92333379e2d262ca44d7dd1956a9179This show is jam-packed with exciting acts!  First of all, Blitzen Trapper is great- a truly solid, dependable band that will always be there for you in your times of need.  I thought Furr was one of the best albums of 2008.  These alt-rockers have consistently excellent, entertaining songwriting.  Their music has real, true soul as lead singer and songwriter Eric Earley drawls along in his Dylan-esque voice.  This is alt-country at its best, and they put on a really solid live show.  Plus, I know from my days at Olde Club that they are really, really nice guys.

As if that weren’t enough to get you out to Bowery Ballroom tomorrow, Blitzen Trapper is on tour with Alela Diane.  The singer-songwriter’s haunting tunes have been all over the blogs for the past few months, and she is gaining serious buzz momentum.  I even read one blog that called her new album one of the best folk albums they’ve ever heard.  And if THAT weren’t enough to convince you to go to this show, Plants and Animals are also playing.  This Canadian trio’s brand of large-sounding almost-orchestral 70s inspired rock has a lot of people talking about them, as well.  You can check out mp3s from all three of the bands below.
