Cursive, who’s latest album has been getting pretty decent reviews, is playing Bowery Ballroom tomorrow night. But the real reason to make it down (or up) to the LES is Bear Hands. I have a (not too) funny story about Bear Hands. I was on vacation with my mother at a spa in Massachusetts. It’s a really…unhip place, so imagine my surprise when I noticed a mom-aged woman wearing a Bear Hands t-shirt. It was so out of place, I had to ask. ”Do you like Bear Hands?” The woman looked at me, surprised, and returned, “Do you like Bear Hands.” I said yes, I did, and that they were pretty popular in Brooklyn. Turns out, it was guitarist Ted Feldman’s mother, and she was pretty excited some random stranger had heard of her son’s band. I like to think that maybe I played some small role in convincing one mother that their child’s rock n roll lifestyle is totally worth it.
Maybe now I can convince some blog readers to check out Bear Hands. They play standard indie fare (think Walkmen) but it’s damn good. Check out the video above, or the mp3 below!
