Well, I was right. Wye Oak is pretty incredible. I can’t wait until they get really famous. The songwriting is there, and they certainly deserve it. Crooked Fingers was okay. The way I see it, they have two kinds of songs: very quiet singer/songwriter songs and more rocking songs. The main singer is good for both. But the drummer/keyboardist doesn’t add too much on the slow songs, and while the bassist has a lovely singing voice for the slow songs, her bass skills just aren’t up to par for the fast ones. A little rearranging, and this band might have something. Until then, I would probably pass on Crooked Fingers.
