I’m very late with this post (the event was on Friday), but I think you’ll see it was worth the delay. I didn’t bring my camera to the first night of the Rooftop Films series because I thought I should take a night off. Sometimes I wonder if my friends don’t get a little embarrassed when I’m constantly snapping photos in public, though they’re too nice to ever say anything about it. Anyways, it was a great night of film in a very, very cool space. It was made even cooler by the fact that Staten Islanders and Pitchfork Best New Music recipients Cymbals Eat Guitars played a short set before the films. While it was too strange of an occasion for me to truly judge the band, I think they’re quite good. They have such an excellent grasp of crafting their sound, and it hearkens back to a lot of the early 90s guitar bands that I particularly love. I’ll definitely try to see them at a proper show for a better review, but check the track out at the end of the post to see if you like them. I think it’s a brilliant song.
As for why this post was worth the delay, my dear friend Meredith has given me a drawing of hers from the night to post again! As I previously said, I hope this becomes a regular collaboration. Don’t forget to visit her blog, Auratic Outmoded, for which you can find the link on the right.
