Veckatimest, blah, blah, blah, 9.0, blah, blah, album we’ve all been waiting for, blah, blah, blah, blah. So yes, Grizzly Bear’s new album Veckatimest is finally, officially out, and yes, everyone is talking about it. Yes, Pitchfork gave it a 9.0 and it feels like Animal Collective all over again. I’ve listened to the album several times and I like it. It’s very good, and Grizzly Bear will go down as one of the visionary groups of our generation. I have to say, though, I don’t like it as much as their previous work. There just aren’t any songs that dramatically grab at my heart strings the way, say, “Little Brother” does.
Recommending this show, then, really has nothing to do with Veckatimest. It’s simply that two amazing live bands are playing together, and this shouldn’t be missed. I saw Grizzly Bear this past fall with The National. Their sound is even more majestic live than you’d expect. Here We Go Magic has one of my favorite albums of this year. Really, take this opportunity to see both these bands; you won’t regret it. By the way, you can stream Veckatimest in its entirety here.
