When someone told me that the bass player in Sam Champion started a reggae band, I was instantly intrigued. I listened to a few tracks and was sufficiently curious to drag myself out to Mercury Lounge on this gross, rainy Thursday. The music is a kind of cool combination of reggae and rock. Admittedly, I know absolutely nothing at all about reggae music, so I feel ill-equipped to review this band. I will say that I thought the songs were good, but they didn’t blow be away. I had fun listening to them, and I thought the percussionist was particularly impressive. Bones was particularly entertaining to watch when he loosened up a bit towards the end of his set; he has some very nice awkward-indie-boy dance moves. I think people will end up liking this band a lot, but it’s not something I’d listen to on a regular basis. Decide for yourself from the mp3 below, hosted by rcrdlbl.
