Two bands that have been quietly rolling around the blogosphere for awhile, two bands from Los Angeles, and two bands that are a perfect fit for the lazy days of summer. All I want to do is lay out and listen to these listlessly floating tunes, preferably on an ancient record player, whiskey lemonade in hand. These two songs are perfect for just that kind of summer day. Secretly Canadian’s Foreign Born shine on “Vacationing People.” I actually can’t think of anything to say, except for that it feels like the indie version of “River of Dreams.” This is an absolutely stupid thing to write, but I can’t seem to get that description out of my head, so that’s what I’m writing about it. Best Coast’s (great band name, in my estimation) “Sun Was High (So Was I)” definitely fits into the whole California lo-fi thang, so it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. But upon my second listen, I was hooked. The lazy way the singer’s voice goes slightly up on “because of you-ou-ou-ou” every once in awhile completely reels me in. Download both songs below.
