I saw Jana Hunter this year at SXSW completely by accident, waiting for Harlem to play. I was lucky I got there early, because this Baltimore songsmith melds guitar noises, vocal effects, and harmonic layers into some truly beautiful songs. Most would put her in the category of freak folk, as evidenced by the following track with Devendra Banhart. That track is actually just Devendra Banhart, but they have worked together before.
