All of the good show this week are happening on Thursday and Friday, leaving me with nothing to write about for tomorrow. You can always go see Shilpa Ray at Cake Shop, but I’ve seen her so many times in the past few months it seems to automatic to post about. Instead, I’m writing about a song that’s been out for several months now, but that I’ve been listening to all day. ”Young Hearts Spark Fire” has been on constant repeat for me today. In fact, Japandroids’ whole album, Post-Nothing, has been. First of all, the main lyric of the song is beautiful. ”We used to dream, now we worry about dying.” Teenage angst for the lost and roaming 20-something set. The rich guitar tone on the song is also thick and consistent throughout the entire album. The commitment they make to that sound gives Post-Nothing a rare strength and unity. Listen to the song alone in your room, get a little angsty, and enjoy a darn fine piece of rock and roll. Check out the whole album if you can.
