The Dodos received a lot of acclaim and buzz for their 2008 album, Visiter, so it’s no wonder that this latest album is just a tad bit of a letdown. The first half of the album is good and very true to the band’s previous work, but not entirely memorable. The last few songs on the album, however, are tender, gorgeous hymns to listen to during the quiet moments of your day, or maybe if you’re nursing a mildly broken heart. ”Troll Nacht” is the definite highlight. Melodically interesting and rhythmically textured, it has such a subtle build to it and is so gentle that it nearly becomes boring, but just perfectly carries you along. I really like this track, and I hope you do, too. The rest of the album is still worth a listen or two, especially if you liked any of their earlier stuff.
