I love that Southpaw is only two blocks away from my house now. I stopped by to see friends pow wow! do a set for a new monthly party at Southpaw called The Rumble. Minus a drummer, pow wow! played as a trio without any keyboards. While I definitely missed the keys, they were still their same, good ‘ole fashioned rock and roll selves, churning out songs that sound like they belong to a bygone era without really sounding too much like anything else. I stuck around long enough to see Your Nature, who were definitely not my thing. They’re akin to a jam bandy U2. Not my style at all, though sometimes their grooves sounded good. They’re weren’t bad, just not for me. In eight months when this whole lo-fi thing is getting serious backlash, these guys will start to get press. I still won’t like them.
