MP3 Roundup: Islands, Volcano Choir, WHY?

I’ve been enjoying these three songs this week.  The new Islands album, Vapours, is still not their first album, but it’s definitely better than the last one.  This is the first track off Vapours, and I like it because of the way it deals with New York.  Bon Iver’s side-project, Volcano Choir, has been all over the internet recently, with the recent bestowal of Best New Music on their album, Unmap.  Posting on it is probably a little bit redundant, but I want to draw special attention to this song in particular.  It’s a creepy, experimental, beautiful song that sounds slightly like a warped, Bon Iverized version of “Amazing Grace.”  It’s arresting, and I love it.  The WHY? track is from their new album, Eskimo Snow.  This song has catchy hooks and the kind of piano part that I’m a sucker for.  It’s that jangly, driving kind of piano that goes underneath a touching montage at the end of a movie.  It’s a very dramatic song, and I bet you’ll want to listen to it more than once.
