If you didn’t manage to get tickets to Sufjan (to hear his cool new classical project, BQE), then I’d suggest hitting up the Rural Alberta Advantage/Kittens Ablaze Show. RAA recently got signed to Saddle Creek (Conor Oberst’s old label) and will probably have a nice, long career ahead of them. I’m not bowled over by their music, but they have some nice, easy indie tunes. Like the mp3 below. It’s a good song for the fall, full of nostalgia and romance and deep strings. And Kittens Ablaze are a good young band with a bad name that I’m definitely keeping my eye on. Listen to the first song on their myspace. It’s got a great hook, nice whistling, and shows a lot of potential. I think both tracks are songs that anyone reading this blog will enjoy. Two good bands with strings makes for a good show. The Kurt Vile show at Mercury Lounge is also a good bet.

P.S. I’d be remiss not to mention this party happening tomorrow, though it’s not strictly indie music.
P.P.S. I’d also be remiss not to say this: Who’s the bitch now, Jay Reatard?

Jay Reatard. I hope this is the first of a million bands to quit on you. I hope your loved ones quit on you. I hope all of the bad things in life happen to you and only to you.
