Recommended Monday Show: Surfer Blood, Small Black, and The Sundelles at Death By Audio

First things first.  CMJ 09 is over, and NYRM has a new look!  Well, maybe not a new look exactly, but I do have a new header.  It’s designed by the wonderful and talented Meredith Leich, who writes the blog Auratic Outmoded, which you can check out by clicking on the link just to your right.  She did a great sketch for me, and it’s supposed to represent the whole rock music/stock market concept that the name of this blog represents.  A huge improvement over that old Hold Steady photo.  Thanks Meredith!

Speaking of the stock market, if someone’s stock went up during CMJ, it was definitely Surfer Blood.  The Florida band played twelve shows during CMJ, and packed in every one of them with escalating hype throughout the week.  They certainly weren’t the BEST band I saw during CMJ, but they are very fun.  They’re also very, very young, which of course, makes them more appealing.  You will like them if you like (old) Weezer.  Listen to the song below.  Catchy. If you missed all of their twelve CMJ shows, you can catch them at Death By Audio tomorrow before they head out on tour with Art Brut and Japandroids.  No doubt the backlash will start soon, so enjoy them while you still don’t have to defend your opinion.  Small Black and one of my faves, The Sundelles, are also playing.
