I know I’m pretty late with this post, but I blame it on all of the Halloween festivties. Friday night’s show at the Guggenheim was spectacularly fun, at least from my perspective. Sure, it was a bit pricey, but it was just so darn cool to get to do something I love to do in an unlikely place that I also love. The Guggenheim’s vibe and Yeasayer’s indie arty feel went very well together, though it was slightly disconcerting to look up and see what must have been patrons of the museum in very expensive suits looking bemusedly down on us from the upper galleries. Max Silverstri entertained with some pretty funny if not awkward comedy. Rachel Sherman read a nice piece about living deep in Brooklyn, though she seemed a bit out of place. Tan Lines are fun, but forgettable in the midst of all the other two-person electro acts out there. Yeasayer were just about as good as they usually are. They’ve certainly got a new unique sound, and the new material branches further into electronic button pushing than their last album. All of the songs did feel a bit flatter than the new ones, but I think I’ll still love them recorded. A wonderful in all, and I’d definitely recommend spending the extra few bucks to attend another one of these museum showws in the future.
There were also these not-3-D glasses that we all half got tricked into wearing. Kind of a fun thing. Speaking of fun things, I’m going to be in vacation in Los Angeles the rest of this week! I’m going to check out the music scene there, and see how it’s different from New York. I’m definitely hoping to make it to the smell, and maybe a few other places, as well. I’ll let you know what I find there! Posting may be a bit thin this week as a result, but I’m going to try my best to stay up-to-date.
