You’ve probably heard of Girls already. They recently received “Best New Music” on Pitchfork and their debut album is so appealingly poppy in a surfy, edgy way that everyone seems to be talking about them as a “new favorite band.” Seriously, if you haven’t checked them out yet you definitely should; they really do have this remarkable, appealing x-factor that everyone seems to love. You should definitely, definitely watch this version of their music video for “Lust for Life.” They recently played a show at Maxwell’s, which I heard was a bit lack-luster, but I think this is still the don’t-miss show of the night. I also caught Real Estate at CMJ, and even though I’ve been a long-time champion of this band, they’ve gotten even better in their past few months of touring. Their fuzzed-out, meandering guitar jams are honed to near-perfection. A wonderful band with a totally unique sound that I really love. Should be a great all-around show.
