Recommended Friday Show: Freelance Whales and Fanfarlo at Webster Hall

This September, Freelance Whales were just a small glimmer on the horizon of buzzdom.  It was only a matter of time before CMJ came along and whisked them away from their Queens homes into the spotlight.  Their youthful eagerness and melange of instruments become absolutely irresistible when you combine them with solid songwriting.  Personally, I was blown away by their four part harmonies when I saw them upstairs at the BrooklynVegan showcase in October.  For a band that’s only been around for a year, they sure do sound assured and practiced.  It may be a little twee for some, but save yourself the trouble of finding out about your new favorite band later, and see these guys now.  Fanfarlo is also really cool.  They’re from the UK and they play simple, pretty rock.  They’re doing a really cool thing with an advent calendar on their website, so make sure to check that out before the show.
