I think that Rural Alberta Advantage are a little hit overhyped, but they have some good songs, like the one below. They don’t hit you right away, but are quiet growers; their sincerity gets its hooks in you and you end up going back for more, like a safe, familiar place. It’s fitting that they’re on Saddle Creek Records. If you like other acts on the label, chances are you’ll like RAA. The openers for the night, The Loom, have a brand new album coming out early 2010. They’ve had some line-up changes and refined their sound, and are definitely a band to watch. If you can find tickets to this sold-out show, Mercury Lounge is the place to be this Saturday night.
