This show happened last week, but you can check out some photos of Cloud Nothings, Fluffy Lumbers, and Dream Diary at Monster Island Basement over at Impose. I was feeling very flash-o-phobic, so it’s definitely not my best work, but you can get the general idea of the mood of the evening. I’d been looking forward to checking out Fluffy Lumbers for a long time, but at the beginning of the set Samuel Franklin despondently explained that he planned on having a full band for SXSW, but that their drummer had to be in court and could no longer go on the tour. Major bummer dudes. Instead, Fluffy Lumbers played as a duo and improvised the rhythm section on pedals. There were some noise jams that were really good, but I couldn’t hear any of Franklin’s vocals over all of the electronics. And I really like the words/melodies to these songs. I’m not sure that they’d quite worked out their new set-up yet. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll hear them another time.
Cloud Nothings are one of THE bands to watch out for. Their songs are just so good. They have the stage presence, the laid-back vibe, and the scuzzy sound to really be noticed. They’ve been everywhere lately, but I’d expect to be hearing a lot more about them from major media outlets after SXSW. I’ll let the music speak for itself. Check out the track below. Absolutely one of my favorite new bands.
