SXSW 2010: Here We Go!

After a night of over-packing, throwing away everything in my refrigerator, and deciding if taking a second book was worth the extra weight (it was), the time has finally come!  In four hours I’ll be boarding the plane that will take me to the plane that will take me to Austin.  Despite my insane and deep fear of flying, I’m far more excited than I thought I’d be.  I had a hard time falling asleep last night; it felt like Christmas circa 1998.  SXSW can easily leave you feeling cynical: how can there be so many bands?  What’s the point of all this anyways?  But I’m really looking forward to hearing some new stuff, meeting new people, eating new food, and wearing sandals.  This post is by and large pointless, but I wanted to say that here on in begins the NYRM coverage of SXSW.  I’ll post each night, and tweet during the day (oh how I loathe writing that).  Plus, here’s a few of my favorite songs to listen to while traveling.  Airplanes mean comfort music.  Some old and familiar, some new and familiar.  Enjoy, and I’ll see you in Austin.

MP3: “Born To Run” – Bruce Springsteen

MP3: “Theme From Cheers” – Titus Andronicus

MP3: “Kiss Me On The Bus (Studio Demo)” – The Replacements

MP3: “How A Resurrection Really Feels” – The Hold Steady

MP3: “Past In Present” – Feist

P.S. Apparently, I am a bro with an unhealthy Bruce Springsteen obsession.  Who knew?

it’s a leeeeeetle bit unhealthy. one can only alternate bruce, hold steady, replacements, titus so many times before they turn into a beardy twenty year old bro. actually, maybe i can just work hard to break some stereotypes.
