Micachu and the Shapes are one of my faves here at NYRM. Their album, Jewellery, was the #1 favorite album of 2009, and I saw them play last year at Littlefield. And I still think that they’re one of the most innovative bands out there right now. If you’ve never seen their live show, I’d highly recommend it. Mica Levi is a strange, brilliant musician who’s mild manner is fun to watch. Many of her instruments are homemade, and the band recreates the cool sounds heard on the album by banging on Stoli bottles and other various non-traditional paraphernalia. My only complaint is that I want more new music soon! Tanlines, who did not impress me at the Guggenheim, put on an enjoyable show at SXSW. I still don’t think they’re anything to write home about musically, but they sure do put on a fun dance party. Can’t go wrong with these two bands at LPR.
