There’s always plenty of good shows happening at Maxwell’s, but I rarely recommend them because it’s pretty hard to get back from there at night if you don’t have a car. And most New Yorkers I know don’t have access to a car. However, this is one of those shows that warrants the little extra effort you’ll have to make to cross the river into New Jersey. The Soft Pack’s new album is a lot of fun, and they sounded great at their last show at Cake Shop. Nodzzz don’t come around to New York that often either, and their guitar-driven songs have been entertaining me for almost a year now. This show is happening on Thursday at Mercury Lounge, but Maxwell’s is a way cooler venue, and there’s a whole mess of other things happening Thursday that you might want to check out.
