Zach Hill is one nasty drummer. I guess the only real reason he’s on my radar is the brief stint he did as Wavves’ drummer a few months ago. It was the best Wavves show I’ve ever seen, in large part because of Hill’s expressive, frenetic drumming. Probably one of the best drummers I’ve ever seen live, period. He’s got a whole mess of solo stuff, some of which is sort of insufferable, but some of which is pretty cool. There’s a good smattering on his MySpace page. ”Stoic Logic,” which is posted below for download, is one of the good ones. Its name is onomatopoeiacally fitting. The phrases in the song are short, compact, and sound really good together. It’s accessible even as it’s drowned in sound. I really dig it. Check him at Death By Audio tomorrow, though you’ll have to sit through some 8-bit to get to him.
