I haven’t written about Tim Fite in over a year, and thankfully this show tomorrow is the perfect reason to bring up his newest album, Under the Table Tennis. The album about the economy and all the intricate parts of feeling helpless and fucked by the forces at large. There are songs about health insurance, foreclosure, unemployment- things that have been prominently on our minds lately. There are rap songs, experimental mash-ups, and also just Fite’s typically strange and original compositions. Fite is angry, and he is funny, and this is a wonderful, timely album that isn’t receiving as nearly as much attention as it deserves. You can decide for yourself, because Fite is giving away the album for free on his website. If you need any more convincing to go download it, take a listen to the song below, my favorite from the album. He sings, “I wish I could quit and do what I want/I got all kinds of jobs/But being myself don’t pay nothing/I got all kinds of jobs.” True, true, true.
