Sorry for the extended absence over this weekend. I went to my college reunion over the weekend and was pretty distracted. I was all ready to blog when I got back on Sunday, but this week has been so light on shows I was feeling relatively uninspired. Totally go to the Here We Go Magic show tonight if you’re looking for something to do, but I felt funny posting about it since I haven’t listened to their new album yet.
Tomorrow night, however, is a different story. School of Seven Bells are back with new music, and they’re playing two small shows at Mercury Lounge this week, one on Wednesday and one on Thursday. I’m a little bit frightened of this band- their icy cold personas are intimidating, but they make for such powerful songs. Remember that song from that 90s band Filter, “Take a Picture?” I know this is going to sound totally crazy, but in some strange way School of Seven Bells sounds like that. Same type of chord progressions, but paired with heavenly-leaning, striving vocals. I really dug Alipinisms, and the new track below doesn’t sound too different from what we’re used to.
A band from San Francisco called Maus Haus are also playing. From the small sampling of songs on their MySpace, I can only say that they sound extremely unique, with each song being a fairly different play on certain genres. They all have playful, nonsensical lyrics in common. Will it be good live? I can’t predict, but you can check them out here.
