Let me get one thing straight here. I’m not recommending this show for Neon Indian. His live show, really, is pretty boring. Sure, it’s dancey and people like it, but the music has no soul! No soul! I’ll admit, “Should Have Taken Acid With You” is a pretty sweet song, though. And his guitarist is fun to watch. But as a pop-cultural entity, Neon Indian irks me. Nevertheless, this show is sure to draw out some pretty cool cats, and will probably be a pretty fun way to spend a Thursday.
Most importantly, though, is Wild Nothing. Opening for Neon Indian at MHOW! That’s exciting for this quickly-rising band. Everyone seems to agree that their new album is at least good, and will probably provide the soundtrack to quite a few people’s summers. Plus, their recent show at Knitting Factory was incredibly enjoyable, all the way down to the Fleetwood Mac cover. If you don’t feel like shelling out $20 to catch Wild Nothing and then leaving before Neon Indian, or begrudgingly stay to see how he is (sorry, I’m projecting my tastes onto you, forgive me) you could always go to Prospect Park for a free comedy show with Eugene Mirman. The show schedule should start picking up again this weekend and next week with Northside Fest.
