When it comes to my 24-year-old self being proud of my 21-year-old self (not that they’re that different, but I certainly don’t mean to be self-congratulatory), there are few instances when I am more so than with My Teenage Stride. They were the second ever band I ever booked. I actually don’t remember how it happened anymore- I think maybe I stumbled across their MySpace. Certainly no one had ever heard of them at Swarthmore (except probably this guy), but they came and put on a solid show of really great songs. I was pretty surprised to find that they were a really big part of the Brooklyn scene when I moved here two or so years ago. For some reason, they haven’t taken off in the same way as their peers, but that’s not because they aren’t as talented. The group has released five new songs, in preparation for a new album coming later this year. Now feels like a good time to see them live if you haven’t for awhile, or never have. Plus, Easter Vomit, The Surprisers, and Lame Drivers are also playing, all three officially a-ok’ed by this here blog. PLUS, I think there’s going to be free margaritas from 10-11. I think that’s what Michael Scott calls a win-win-win-win.
