Oh man! After a short respite from Shows of the Day, we’re back! With a really, really great show. Julian Lynch is in town, and that’s a fantastic thing. His quiet, oftentimes experimental bedroom music is fantastic. If you didn’t see him last night at Glasslands, then make sure to get your butt out to this show tonight, despite the snow. Big Troubles and Family Portrait are opening, another two bands that are always worth seeing. Most importantly, though, is the location. Sure, we’ve all seen Big Troubles and Family Portrait and Mr. Lynch at places like Bruar Falls and Monster Island a million times. And it does kind of stink when the bands you love don’t get to play smaller places anymore. BUT, all these young lads are of the same temperament such that I don’t think they’ll ever stop playing those places we love, AND this is an amazing chance to hear how Lynch’s complicated compositions will fill up a huge room. I’m so excited to hear how he pulls it off, and am counting down the minutes to tonight’s show.
A track below from Lynch’s 2010 album, Mare. It’s fantastic and should have been on my year-end list, but didn’t quite make it. You should listen to it in full here if you never have before.
