Total Slakcer by Meredith Leich
Yuck has been getting a lot of play in the last few weeks. I don’t much care for the songs on their MySpace. They have a fuzzy-but-sunny-pop guitar production sound similar to The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, but with much more simplistic, punky songwriting. They’re on Fat Possum but it sounds like the production should make it something from Sub Pop. Without having seen them live at all, I find the whole project a little boring. It’s almost pretty, but has too much edge, and it’s almost edgy, but sounds too pretty. Still, this is the hot-ticket show of the evening. Mostly because you’ve got Fergus & Geronimo and Total Slacker both playing. And that is always a good thing.
