Crystal Stilts have a new record coming out soon. I haven’t heard it yet, but I’m betting that’s it’s going to be incredible. I know they’ve spent a long time working on it making sure that it sounds really good, and I have full confidence that it will. There’s been such an astonishingly quick shift away from “garage rock,” and “lo-fi,” the under-the-radar blog genres that were so popular only a few years ago. When the Stilts came up with the crop of bands like Vivian Girls, they definitely stood out then, and I think that this album will only help them to stand out more now that we’re in the midst of the electronic-influenced, more abstractedly fluid music that’s the in-thing today. Not that the album won’t be great on its own, but I’m guessing that it’s going to prove to be a huge hit, partially by way of the music industry’s short attention span. This is all speculation. Go see for yourself this Friday. That probably didn’t make much sense. Whatever. The show should have a fantastic vibe, and Beach Fossils and Widowspeak are worth checking out, as well.
