I started this blog because my friends often ask me for music suggestions. My goal is to make it as unpretentious as possible. I want people who know a lot about music to be able to enjoy the blog, but I also want this to be a place for people who are simply looking for some cool new bands to come find them. Just because someone doesn’t have a lot of time to devote to discovering indie music doesn’t mean they won’t appreciate it. I will not put up obscure things because they are obscure. I will not be afraid to report on someone more mainstream. My only criteria for posting something will be whether or not I think my friends would like it.
I also think transparency is important. Who am I, and where am I coming from? I’m 25 years old. I grew up in New Jersey and went to Swarthmore College. I now live in New York and work full-time as a music supervisor. Need a music supervisor for a television show or film? Let me know. I’m also a freelance DJ at a small, online radio station.
A note on the photos: If you would like to use any of the photos on this blog in any capacity, please contact me first. I will almost certainly say yes, but it’s nice to be asked.
If ANYTHING on this blog isn’t for posting, please tell me immediately and I’ll take it down. I just want to promote bands I like to my friends. I believe that by putting up one or two mp3s, people are much more likely to pay money to see an artist. You can reach me at madalyn.baldanzi@gmail.com.
Hi Madalyn!
I found your blog on Twitter (I’m helping out a couple of bands…Volunteers and doublethink…who both have shows coming up). I wanted to invite you to be our guest to either of these shows…
doublethink The Annex, this Sunday Feb 15 7PM
Volunteers Mercury Lounge Tues 24 10:30PM
I also DJ at WBMBradio.com, so if you ever have a band that you think I should spin, please feel free to let me know about them!
Hi Madalyn,
Just discovered your blog recently and find myself coming back often. Appreciate your humble approach and great taste…
Kindly,
Laura P
This blog is the best blog ever!
Maybe you should put someone on your staff who has the job of thinking of alternative band names. Just a couple of names that I think might convince you to do such a thing.
Oil and Water
The Marshall Plan
Strangers at the Panama Canal
Just think about it, that’s all I am saying.
[...] About This Blog [...]
Hi,
I work with the L Magazine and they are currently gearing up to put on another Northside Festival here in NYC at the end of the month. This year they have some pretty great bands, but they are also sweetening the pot by giving out a bunch of free passes, and a brand new iPad to a lucky winner. It’s a pretty cool prize and I was thinking that maybe some of the New York Rockmarket readers might be into checking out the competition and the festival. It would be great if you can give it a shout on the blog, it’s a cool festival for NY and we are really excited about getting the word out about it this year.
You can check out all the info on the festival and the giveaways at this link (http://posting.thelmagazine.com/newyork/NorthsideContest/Page).
All the best,
Sam
Hey, I saw your piece on our benefit with Patti Smith tonight, and wanted to say thanks. I’m glad you like our project; it’s really cool when people “get” Fortnight and want to share. Hope to see you at Southpaw!
Nice work
